Home Run! That is exactly what this thermostat is. I have the ecobee3 with four remote sensors that I have installed in a 40 year old condo.
I've wanted to install a smart thermostat with wifi capability for some time. I learned the hard way by buying another brand, that I needed a common (C) wire at my thermostat in order for the thermostat to work. Well...I don't have a common wire at my thermostat, so I had to return that thermostat. And so I continued to search, and finally found this amazing thermostat.
The Power Extender Kit included with the thermostat, solved my lack of having a common wire at the thermostat. Now my home is 40 years old, and the existing wiring doesn't have wire blocks to connect wires, everything is connected with wire nuts, and to complicate things more, the color of some of the wires are different from those installed today. All of that noted, I still installed the Power Extender Kit in less than 10 minutes. I just used their wiring diagram to help me figure out my spaghetti of wires and get things properly connected.
Installing the thermostat was even easier, as it really only took a couple of minutes. Setting up my programming took longer...
The Power Extender Kit was a life saver, but the icing on the cake is the remote sensors. My HVAC system is poorly designed, as the thermostat is within 5 feet of two air diffusers. This meant the rest of the condo was either too hot or too cold, and the thermostat would reached desired temperature quickly. The ecobee3 allows me to turn off the thermostat as a sensor and use the remote sensors in my other rooms to average out the temperature, thus resulting in a more uniform temperature throughout my condo.
